Ugh, I don’t have any cash. Whoops, I left my wallet at home. S#4% my credit card has expired!
Those thoughts used to mean lost time, a trip back home, inconvenience and a raging headache. Not having an ability to pay when out in the world is limiting, to say the least. That’s why more and more of us (nearly 400 million consumers according to Juniper Research) are turning to our mobile phones to make purchases.
Today we’re launching our completely reimagined PayPal app on iPhone and Android, so our customers can leave the raging headache at home and just get what they want, when they want it.
With the new design of the app, we’ve made it easier than ever for our customers to pay when they’re in-store and send money to friends (that reminds me, I owe David $3 for that latte). Of course, because we’re PayPal, paying with your phone doesn’t mean you have to give up choice. We have made it even easier to pay using your bank account in one store and your credit card at the next place. In this release, you can even open a line of credit in the app using Bill Me Later.
We’ve also vastly improved the in-store shopping experience. The PayPal app has a new tab called ‘Shop’, which you can use to find shops or restaurants nearby that accept PayPal payments. You can then 'check in' and open a tab with just a swipe. You can change how you want to pay right on the "check in" screen, meaning you’ve really got access to your entire wallet in the app. After you’ve paid, you’ll see a confirmation alert and our usual PayPal email receipt. Check out this video, which shows how simple it really is:
Thousands of restaurants, cafes, clothing stores and other retail locations in the US, UK, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and Canada now allow shoppers to pay just using their mobile phones.
The new app is delivering on the promise to help consumers get the most of their money, on their terms, in a way that no one else can.>
The minutes you spend standing in line can now be spent on chatting with your family or getting back to work on time. By checking in on the PayPal app, you can order ahead (from the full menu!) and bypass the line at local restaurants and cafes. Starting today, you can order ahead at more than a thousand Eat24 locations, with more restaurants and cafes coming soon.
Pay at Table
Forget having to wait for the server to run your card or give you change. You can check-in to view your bill, give a tip and pay your restaurant bill through the PayPal app. You can even order another drink from the app at some locations.
Instead of thinking about that stack of paper coupons in your desk drawer at home, the new app has the offer waiting in your wallet the second you stepped into the store. Starting today, $100 in offers is available in your PayPal app from local US businesses. You can save the offers to your PayPal wallet and they are automatically redeemed at checkout.
Credit Line Built In
For the first time, you can apply to finance your PayPal purchases from inside the app by selecting the Bill Me Later option. You also have the opportunity to get flexible financing and promotional offers such as "six months to pay on purchases of $99 or more" from participating PayPal retailers.
So give it a try and tell us what you think. Download it on your iPhone or Android smartphone and check it out. It’s available in nearly 125 markets around the world starting today.
