Back in March, we released new REST APIs and developer tools for US developers. By building our new APIs on modern, standards-based technologies such as REST, OAuth and JSON, we’ve made it even quicker, easier and more secure for developers to integrate PayPal into their applications. The response has been terrific with more than 50,000 US developers implementing these APIs. Based on our developers’ feedback, we are now making our REST APIs available globally for anyone to integrate PayPal payments in multiple currencies.
For developers in the US, the UK and Canada only, we’ve added the capability of processing credit card transactions using the REST API. We will be spreading this functionality to other countries as soon as possible.
To get started, simply go to http://developer.paypal.com and log in with your PayPal account. You can start coding using our dynamic documentation and simple integration tools. How simple? One of our New York City Battle Hack teams had only five weeks of coding experience, and incorporated it into their application within a few hours.
As we’ve said, we will continue releasing new developer capabilities throughout the year and we encourage developers to give us feedback about these APIs via Twitter @PayPalDev. And, remember if you get stuck on anything, you can ask questions on Stack Overflow, or directly to our team of evangelists at firstname.lastname@example.org.
