We’re excited to announce that we’ve just inked a strategic deal with Beijing Post – one of China’s largest postal providers, serving customers in more than 204 cities in 143 countries worldwide. The company is also the proud owner of the largest international mail exchange office in China.
Why is this a big deal? Currently in China traditional exporters are seeing continuous decline but cross-border e-commerce is booming. As such, more and more exporting merchants have started to embrace online and ship products internationally. In 2012, China’s freight import and exports totaled USD 2.3 trillion, up 32%, surpassing the U.S. for the first time. Any successful e-commerce merchant knows the importance of getting logistics right when it comes to getting their goods into the customer’s hands. Speed of delivery, service quality and the ability to track goods are vital to any seller that wants to have a competitive edge.
For this reason we’re delighted to announce that together with Beijing Post we’ve created PayPal Package, an international logistics solution. First up, PayPal Package allows merchants to track order delivery online, which means it enables merchants to be covered by our seller protection policy. Second, merchants can benefit from an international delivery service for small parcels, which guarantees that these items will be boarding a plane for delivery on the day of order. Current estimates show that transporting parcels from China to the US and Europe takes 10 – 20 days and with this new arrangement we will improve the overall shipping experience. Working with Beijing Post, our merchants in China will benefit from its mature import-export system and, ultimately, the speed of an express delivery service for the price of surface mail.
We know that one of the reasons people prefer PayPal for international shopping is because it makes buying things simple and fast. But if it takes weeks to get your goods, or a logistical slip-up means you don’t receive them at all, customer satisfaction plummets. At PayPal we’re always looking for practical innovations which make shopping better for both merchants and consumers, and we we’re pretty confident that PayPal Package does just that.
