Despite the melding of traditional shopping holidays (is it just us or does it seem more like Black Friday Week at this point?) Cyber Monday still packs a punch with retailers offering great deals online and via mobile to workers returning to the office ready for a day of work…and shopping. Traditionally, known as THE day for online sales, the increase in mobile shoppers on Thanksgiving and Black Friday has redefined this day of deals as less dependent on the desktop in your cube, and more about getting those deals wherever you might be since your smartphone rarely leaves your side.
So, how did Cyber Monday 2013 stack up? According to PayPal data, consumers continued to turn to their mobile devices to conduct their shopping, following what we saw on Thanksgiving and Black Friday 2013 as consumers expect to shop and pay at their convenience during the holiday season.
Shoppers in Houston, Chicago and Los Angeles logged on to PayPal via their mobile devices the most, followed by Miami and New York. Overall, PayPal data shows that, on Cyber Monday 2013, there was a 93.6% increase in consumers shopping through PayPal on their mobile devices and a 115.6% increase in global mobile TPV (total payment volume) compared to Cyber Monday 2012. While much has been made of people shopping while on the job, the most popular time to shop via PayPal came after the work day was over – 6:00pm to 7:00pm PT saw the highest frequency of mobile shopping via PayPal in the US.
With the holiday shopping kickoff over, do you have everyone checked off your list?
